Two years ago I was struggling to feel comfortable in my body. Belly bloating made it so I felt like I had to cover up in baggy clothes, even though I’d been doing everything I could think of to make it go away - exercising, drinking loads of water, and making sure I ate mostly whole foods.
It wasn’t helping. My waistband was still pinching me and worse- I felt groggy and unmotivated through the day.
What was happening!?
I did what I always do - go a little crazy trying to figure it out… because if I’m dealing with this, how many other women out there are too? I had to figure it out!
So I started eliminating different types of foods to see which had the most impact. When I set my eyes on ensuring there was zero processed sugars in my diet I found myself standing in the health foods store in complete shock (and crying)!
The “healthy” simmer sauces I used to help speed up family dinner time prep? Sugar.
The spaghetti sauce I put over zoodles? SUGAR!
Even my protein powder and pre-workout powder had sugar in it!! 😭😭😭
Even with years of experience, I had been packing in the sugar all day, every day, without even knowing it!
So I did something about it!
Over the next few weeks, I did a ton of research, tested my body and it’s responses, and ultimately decided to give up sugar - for real this time. And I went all in removing sugar from my life. Do you know what I found?
I woke up in the morning feeling refreshed - even without coffee!
I didn’t have any late night snack cravings anymore.
The stubborn 10lbs I had been trying to “out-cardio” simply melted away.
My motivation was through the roof!
AND my taste buds came alive!!! Food started tasting so much better. And better yet, things that I used to like sweetened became too sweet!
It turns out, these results aren’t abnormal.
I had been living in a sugar haze for probably my entire life. All the way back to popsicles in the summer and hot chocolate in the winter - my body’s “normal” wasn’t actually normal. It was sugarfied.
And despite my training in functional medicine and focusing on a mostly whole food diet, I found that I was consuming way too much sugar, even though the products were labeled “healthy.” How did I get here? It was all in the name of busyness and the need for convenience. And, to be honest, I stopped reading labels because if it was organic from my natural food store or from a fitness company, it can’t have sugar in it, right? WRONG!
So after my breakdown in the aisle of the store, realizing I was infusing my body with a sugar drip all day long, I knew that I had to take control of my sugar addiction once and for all if I wanted to feel better. I knew the steps were simple. Just cut out the sugar. But I realized it was not going to be easy.
I knew what had to be done. I knew nobody was going to do it for me. And I knew if I didn’t do it now, my symptoms, including weight gain, were only going to get worse.
So now it’s your turn.
Because my health has changed so much since that fateful day in December, 2019, when I decided to take full control of my nutrition, I now want to help you.
