Why You Keep Falling Off the Wagon—and How to Stop
Let’s be honest—getting healthy can feel like a never-ending cycle. You start strong with new habits, but somehow, before you know it, you’re back where you started. Sound familiar? You’re not alone, and the good news is, there’s a way to break this pattern.
In this blog, we’re digging into why you keep falling off the wagon and how one key mindset shift can change everything. If you’ve been searching for answers, keep reading—but don’t forget to watch my YouTube video where I dive even deeper into this topic.
The Real Reason You’re Stuck
Most of us focus on external strategies when we want to get healthy—things like diets, workout plans, or tracking apps. While these tools are helpful, they often miss the most important factor: your mindset.
Here’s the truth: your expectations for the future are shaped by your past experiences. If you’ve tried and “failed” before, you start to believe that success just isn’t possible for you. Those limiting beliefs sound like:
"I’ve never stuck to a plan before."
"I’m just not a gym person."
"This is who I am."
These thoughts aren’t facts—they’re stories you’ve told yourself so many times that they feel true. And when you believe them, you unconsciously act in ways that make them come true. For example, if you believe "I’ll never stick to this," you might binge on the weekend, proving yourself right.
A Mindset Shift That Changes Everything
The first step to breaking this cycle is awareness. Start identifying those limiting beliefs and questioning them. Ask yourself:
Is this belief actually true?
What evidence do I have that says I can succeed?
How can I learn from my past attempts to create a new approach?
Then, shift your focus from living in the past to envisioning your future. Who do you want to become? A healthy, fit, and confident woman? Start aligning your daily habits with that vision.
Here’s a tip: each day, ask yourself, “What would a healthy woman do?” Whether it’s choosing a balanced meal, prioritizing movement, or getting better sleep, align your choices with that future version of yourself.
My Personal Story
I’ve been there, too. After my mom passed away, I let my self-care slip. Exercise had always been a priority for me, but I lost sight of what I valued and who I wanted to be. It wasn’t until I started identifying as a “fit woman” again that I was able to make going to the gym a non-negotiable. It wasn’t easy at first, but once I began to feel better physically and mentally, it became less about willpower and more about wanting to show up for myself.
